Private PaaS Makes Application Portability Easy for DevOps
For most IT staff, once cloud infrastructure is implemented, flexibility becomes challenging. What happens if project requirements, features or budget changes, and the cloud model doesn't fit as well as originally planned?
Luckily, there is a solution. Private Platform as a Service (PaaS) empowers IT and DevOps to take control and shift applications from one cloud environment to another.
This week, ActiveState's developer evangelist John Wetherill and cloud engineer Ho Ming Li gave insights on how private PaaS enables development on various cloud infrastructures in a webinar, Application Portability Made Easy: How Private PaaS Enables Cloud Portability.
"As you can imagine porting applications across multiple and disparate infrastructure levels is very difficult, and there are a lot of issues you have to address," Wetherill said. "What we are enabling here with PaaS is to do that with zero effort." In the webinar, Wetherill and Li showed how private PaaS enables development on any cloud anywhere, and how it becomes easy for IT and DevOps teams to move from public to private cloud or vice versa, and be up and running in minutes in just a a few keystrokes.
Some of the topics discussed in the webinar included application-centric portability, the need for consistent environments, freedom from vendor lock-in and why it matters, and cost and security concerns.
