Electricity is almost a necessity to everyone nowadays, not only because we are accustomed to living in illuminated rooms laden with appliances of all sorts, but since it charges our portable gadgets that help us live our digital lives as well. However, electricity is one reason our world is in danger now. With fossil fuel reserves depleting at a fast rate, and pollution already at alarming levels, designers are now focusing on greener gadgets that offer more and pollute less.

Sol Air is a wind-harnessing charger that can charge various gadgets. Sol Air was designed by industrial designer, Clarisse Paula Fernando. The charger makes use of wind and human energy to charge gadgets; it also doubles up as an alarm clock.

The Sol Air charger just needs to be placed near a window, and it’ll grab from the free energy source to store into its internal battery. If the wind isn’t blowing, you still get a choice to hand wind it to generate some juice for charging your gadgets.

If the wind isn’t blowing, the device also allows the user to power it using a hand winder. Clarisse claims that the device can charge a cellphone battery after just 5 minutes of winding. The device also features photo-luminescent casing that captures sunlight and glows after dark.
