Boosting Airtel GPRS speed

Boosting Airtel GPRS speed

If you are using  airtel gprs (using bluetooth and non EDGE phone) for Rs.375 unlimited usage (all premium content downloads are chargeable). You get 4.2 KB/s from 02:00 AM to 08:00 PM. You get only 2.85 KB/s in remaining time because all local mobile to mobile calls from 10 PM to 8 AM are Rs.0.39. I have read in an article that in mobile transmitter, they will give more priority for voice pulses than data pulses and the mobile tower splits voice and data packets seperately (in GPRS mode). That is why speed is slow. Follow this way to get faster speed :

01) Click and open ‘My Network Places’ icon.

02) In the window that has opened, left click ‘View network connections’ under network tasks menu.

03) Right click the dialup icon (that you created for GPRS dialup) and click on properties.

04) Click ‘Configure’ button under ‘General’ tab.

05) In ‘Maximum speed (bps)’ option, choose 9600 and click ok and click apply first and then ok to close all windows and try.

Although the speed setting is slow, yo will get 100% utilization of network (can be seen by pressing Control + alt + delete and then going to ‘Networking’ tab). Or else only 1% of network will be utilized !!!.

But one more thing. Upload speed is worst in Airtel GPRS. Download speed is blazing fast. Maximum speed of GPRS standard is only 40.2 Kbps. I don’t know what it is exactly KB/s , KBPS, KBps , Kbps or so. If you use it on EDGE phone, you may get 115.2 Kbps or more depending upon the version of EDGE (such as EDGE class 1 multislot, class 2, etc) that the phone is based on.

NOTE : DON’T FALSELY CURSE ‘BLUETOOTH’ TECHNOLOGY OK?. SPEED OF BLUETOOTH IS ONLY MORE THAN ITS OLDER VERSIONS LIKE IrDA. Infrared, cable, etc. IF YOU USE DUPLICATE BLUETOOTH DEVICES, YOU WILL GET ONLY WORST SPEEDS.

A new MP3 player sits in your ear like a small bluetooth headset.

A new MP3 player is now available called the MP3 Micro Sport. It seems to have no controls except for just 1 button and due to the small size of the device, it sits in your ear like a small bluetooth headset.

It fits right in your ear! So throw your hands in the air, use one of those hands to insert the device into your ear, and then proceed to wave them (your hands) like you just don’t care.Fear not, there’s a single earbud that runs from the device’s USB port out to your other ear.

There’s a 2GB version for $55 and a 4GB version for $77,

Toshiba Dynadock wireless U USB docking station, as suggested by its name, harnesses the wireless USB technology to provide wireless connections between USB gadgets and your computer.

The dock integrates wireless USB tech into the design to eliminate the need for a wire between your laptop and the docking station. In case you aren’t familiar with what a docking station is, the device allows you to connect multiple peripherals to your notebook like keyboards, monitors, and mice among others without having to connect each device via a cable.

Those nice features are assuming you can stomach the $299 asking price of the new wireless version

The Toshiba wireless docking station automatically connects to your computer while it’s in range. It has 6 USB ports and a one-touch undock button. One of the USB ports of this dock features Sleep-and-Charge, which allows you to charge your iPod even when the dock is powered off.

Digital 7.1 surround sound is built-in and the digital video card supports up to 1680 x 1050 resolution. The new dock will be on store shelves this month.

The PCTV picoStick is a super tiny DVB-T TV tuner

18 Sep

Pinnacle-USB-DVB-T-TV-tuner

The PCTV picoStick is a tiny, almost nano-sized DVB-T TV tuner launched today. DVB is growing in its adoption throughout the world, but DVB-T is only widely used in Western Europe.

It’s not like we’ve ever felt particularly overwhelmed by the size or heft of the USB digital TV tuners already on the market,

Although only available for Windows XP, Vista and 7, special attention has been paid to making this a low-power CPU, netbook friendly nano device. This is reflected in their hardware requirements minimum being listed as Intel 1.6GHZ Atom and 256MB of RAM.

the C100 will have a starting price of just $399.

lenovo-c100-desktop

Lenovo says the C100 will be available with either a 1.6GHz single core Intel Atom 230 CPU or a 1.6GHz dual core Atom 330 processor. I’d be shocked if that dual core option doesn’t add a few bucks to the price.
